Wire-size drill bits come in standard sizes that correspond to American Wire Gauge (AWG) sizes. The larger the wire size, the smaller the bit. The AlTiN coating on these drill bits protects them from wear when drilling hard and abrasive materials and is more resistant to high heat than a TiAlN coating. These bits do not have coolant holes, so a separate hose is required to bring coolant to the bits' tip if it is needed. Carbide micro drill bits provide excellent hardness, wear resistance, and heat resistance. They create precise holes with a smooth finish and often eliminate the need for reaming the hole after drilling. Carbide bits require a rigid setup such as a fixed-spindle machine. Spiral-flute drill bits evacuate chips as the bits drill into a workpiece.
