These taps are designed for tapping steel. They have a multilayer CrC/C coating that has a base layer of titanium nitride (TiN) and an outer layer of chromium carbide carbon (CrC/C). It protects the taps from wear when tapping steel. Coolant-through taps have holes that allow coolant to flow to their tip to reduce heat and friction during threading tasks.
