The TiCN coating on these taps protects them from wear and is harder and more wear-resistant than a TiN coating. Coolant-through taps have holes that allow coolant to flow to their tip to reduce heat and friction during threading tasks. Powdered-metal with cobalt taps provide better high-temperature resistance than powdered-metal with high-speed steel taps.
