Dowel-pin size high-speed steel chucking reamer have a trade size that matches a particular size of dowel pin. Dowel-pin tools are slightly smaller than their compatible dowel pin to ensure a tight fit when the pin is inserted in the hole created by the tool. Right-hand spiral-flute reamers pull chips out of a hole as they enlarge it to an exact size for a precise fit when installing fasteners or other parts. This prevents damage to the reamer and the workpiece. They are used for reaming blind holes and are suitable for applications with interrupted cuts, such as keyways.
