Undersized high-speed steel chucking reamers are slightly smaller than a standard size. This helps ensure a tight fit when inserting a standard-size item in a hole made by the tool. Right-hand spiral-flute reamers draw chips up out of the hole and are used for reaming blind holes that do not continue all the way through the workpiece. Spiral-flute reamers leave a smoother finish on the hole than straight-flute reamers. These chucking reamers are made from high-speed steel and have a bright finish that is unaffected when their cutting edges are resharpened. The reamers' straight shank mounts to the chuck of a drill press or similar machining tool.
