These taps are designed for tapping stainless steel. They have a hardlube coating. Sometimes called hardslick, hardlube has an inner layer of titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) and an outer layer of tungsten carbide/carbon (WC/C). The TiAlN layer withstands high temperatures and protects the taps from wear. The WC/C layer has a low coefficient of friction and helps prevent chips from sticking to the tool in dry-machining applications. These taps meet DIN length standards and have a longer overall length than taps that meet ISO, ANSI, and JIS length standards. They also meet ANSI shank standards, which means they measure their shank diameter in inches and fit in standard tools used in the U.S.
