High-speed steel adjustable round dies stay sharper longer than carbon steel dies and are used to make new threads or restore existing threads on the outer surfaces of pipe, conduit, and fittings made from a variety of materials, including steel and nonferrous metals. The dies have a set screw that adjusts the thread depth to over- or under-cut threads for a precise fit. These dies are typically turned by hand with a die wrench.
